HOW?

After our decorative concrete contractors repair damaged areas such as cracks and joints we mix the micro toppings in their natural white or gray and add color pigments. Micro toppings are mixed to the consistency of pancake mix and applied to the floor with a squeegee or trowel. In most cases we apply 1-2 coats spread evenly over the surface. Once the micro topping dries it can be sealed for protection and to enhance the integrally colored surface. For additional coloring effects our decorative concrete contractors can stain or dye the surface in numerous color options.

WHERE?

Our decorative concrete contractors have used micro-toppings in residential apartments , lofts, living rooms and garages. In commercial spaces, art galleries, retail stores, restaurants and offices. All these spaces are ideal for decorative concrete micro toppings.

Once the floor is finished we apply various sealers including water based epoxies and urethanes. Finished coats can be matte or glossy requiring minimal maintenance.

WHY?

When a concrete floor is not in optimum condition for the application of decorative stains and sealers, micro toppings are a perfect solution. These polymer modified Portland Cement coatings are applied over existing concrete at approximately 1/8th inch thick. Since each micro-topped floor reacts differently to stains and dyes, each floor yields character unique to the surface to which it is applied. Using knowledgeable and experienced decorative concrete contractors is key to a successful installation.

FACTS

Polymer cement overlays and micro-toppings consist of a proprietary blend of Portland cements, various aggregates and polymer resins, They were introduced over 20 years ago. The purpose of adding a polymer resin to the cement and aggregate is to greatly increase the performance characteristics and versatility of conventional cements and concrete materials. Unlike conventional cement and concrete mixes, polymer cement overlays can be applied thinly or thickly without fear of delamination or typical product failure.

In addition, polymer cement overlays are much more resistant to damage from salt, petrochemicals, UV, harsh weather conditions and traffic wearing.

Originally intended for use as a thin surface restoration material for concrete substrates, polymer cement overlays were introduced into the architectural concrete and commercial flooring industries in the early 80s. Subsequently, its use in these industries has become standard. Polymer cement overlays are regarded as economical in providing long term, durable renovation solutions without the need for costly and continuous repairs associated with deteriorating concrete surfaces.
